One Year In: President & CEO Joe Bogosian Reflects on Safran DSI’s Mission, Momentum, and Market Disruption

As Safran Defense & Space, Inc. (Safran DSI) completes its first year of operations, President and CEO Joe Bogosian shares his perspective on what the company has accomplished, how it's supporting the Department of Defense's evolving mission, and why Safran DSI is poised to help drive and disrupt the next chapter of U.S. defense innovation.
One year in, how would you describe the mission and momentum of Safran DSI?
Joe Bogosian: We can all be very proud of the fact that we’ve not only met but exceeded objectives for Safran DSI. The first challenge was to stand up a robust enterprise that assured continuity of operations. Check. But where we outpaced expectations was when we quickly grew beyond the four launch businesses to also represent four additional Safran technologies from across the breadth of our $27B global parent, all in less than a year’s time. Our momentum will continue as we look to bring additional Safran technologies to Safran DSI. Along with that growth, we also opened Safran’s Space Hub in Parker Colorado and our headquarters in Arlington Virginia.
How is Safran DSI aligned with the Department of Defense’s modernization priorities?
Joe Bogosian: I’m always reminded of the Peter Drucker maxim that the purpose of a business is to have and keep a customer. Safran DSI is laser focused on and fully aligned with all our customers. In everything we do, we work to help them solve their tough problems and deliver tomorrow’s technologies to meet today’s challenges.
What makes Safran DSI a great place to work, and how does workforce development factor into that?
Joe Bogosian: If success means having and keeping a customer, then it follows that we deliver the highest quality products with our highest quality employees. Many have heard me say that we spend so much of our lives at work that the DSI workplace must be a supportive environment where employees feel trusted, valued and connected to the work we do. That runs across the business of what we do and the way we interact with one another with respect and collegiality. And why not incorporate some fun into the mix sometimes!
What’s next for Safran DSI?
Joe Bogosian: More growth, expanding our U.S. footprint. More advancements in our technology offerings. More recognition in the market for who we are as a company. We will always seek to be on the leading edge of technology solutions and will disrupt ourselves to deliver the highest value for the toughest challenges. And now that we’ve brought together people from disparate Safran businesses, we look forward to the magic of synergies and creativity that will develop when collaboration ideas take hold.
